Labortools powered by BMA Media Groups takes over union-related newspaper
With twenty years of experience producing “America’s Work Force,” the only daily labor-radio program in America, LaborTools has expanded its foothold in the labor-centric media industry by publishing The Labor Citizen, a monthly newspaper.
The Labor Citizen is the result of a merger between The Cleveland Citizen, which produced 4,948 issues over 123 years, and The Ohio Labor Citizen, founded as a sister publication in 1988. After sporadic discussions over the past two years, the Executive Board of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council voted to combine the two publications into one monthly, full-color tabloid and contracted BMA to handle all aspects of the publication.
The Labor Citizen’s primary mission is to provide critical information to members about their specific unions, as well as big picture news and information that impacts all labor members.
On behalf of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council, LaborTools collects timely information from subscribing unions, produces news content, seeks out interested advertisers for the highly specific niche market, and fully designs each edition. The paper is printed at the union press of The Repository in Canton, Ohio. The LaborTools design team will also be creating an engaging website for The Labor Citizen, including a digital archive of issues.
More than 16,000 subscribers from 39 labor unions will be able to read the first June issue of The Labor Citizen this week. The full-color, 20-page edition features a cover story on the construction and recent opening of the Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation, a 100% union job. Distribution of The Labor Citizen is primarily focused in Northeast Ohio, but is increasing statewide.
